The iLine head is relatively short, so loading the rod quickly at short range is easier. Thinner, extra slick running line ensures that the compact head flies fast and long range casts are possible. The taper design compromises superbly between both anchored (roll,spey) and overhead casts: generating more load and increased line speed in roll casts yet remaining stable in flight. The Rio Windcutter taper was designed especially for western rivers where delicate presentations are required in windy conditions. Accurate casts can be made with just the tip of the rod for a very tight loop; yet for windy conditions or when distance is needed, the thick belly will load the butt section of modern graphite rods producing phenomenal line speed to penetrate the air.

The RIO Grand is one half size heavier than the AFTMA standard and features more weight distributed toward the front of the line to easily load fast action fly rods. RIO’s AgentX Technology gives the RIO Grand maximum floatation and the XS Technology produces a wonderfully slick, dirt-repelling finish for easy distance. The line is built on a braided multifilament core that ensures the line remains supple in coldwater conditions. The Super Floatation Tip ensures the line tip doesn’t sink and features a welded loop for changing leaders, which can be cut off without compromising the line’s performance.

New for 2010 the RIO Grand has a different colour running line to easily determine the loading point of the line, and a welded loop on the back end to make light work of rigging.

Rio AquaLux® • XS Technology for 2009. A must have line for the serious lake angler. Castability has always been a problem with clear intermediate freshwater sinking lines because there are no lubricants in the coating and the lines drag through the guides. RIO has solved the problem by incorporating proprietary lubricants into the body and running line coating that make the line slick.

This line is translucent green and a 15 ft (4.6 m) water clear AquaLux tip. With an intermediate sinking rate of 1.5 – 2.0 inches per second (3.7 cm/s), the line is perfect for fishing subsurface and shallow shore lines. Ideal when stealth is required for wary, selective fish. Made on a low memory supple monofilament core with a cold water coating and a welded loop on the front end.
