This taper was designed especially for western rivers where delicate presentations are required in windy conditions.

Accurate casts can be made with the WindCutter with just the tip of the rod for a very tight loop; yet for windy conditions or when distance is needed, the thick belly will load the butt section of modern graphite rods producing phenomenal line speed to penetrate the air.

The Super Flotation Tip, with a welded loop, acts as an indicator to detect subtle takes when fishing emergers subsurface. It also facilitates quick leader changes.

The weight forward taper has a slighly heavier load to activate the faster modern fly rod, yet the rear taper is long enough for roll casting.

Manufactured with Rio's proprietory SlickShooter® Process, the tip floats extremely high, yet gives a smooth light delivery of even the smallest dry fly.

The line, with a supple coldwater, super-slick, self-lubricating, dirt resistant coating on a nylon multifilament core, includes a welded loop on the front end for changing leaders.

Tests prove excellent turnover and presentation with this loop - when you land a fish, it slides throught the rod rings more easily. The loop can be removed without compromising the taper.

Castability has always been a problem with clear intermediate sinking lines because there are no lubricants in the coating and the lines drag through the guides. RIO has solved the problem by incorporating proprietary lubricants into the body and running line coating that make the line slick. This line is translucent green and a 15ft (4.6m) water clear AquaLux tip. With an intermediate sinking rate of 1.5 - 2.0 inches per second (3.7 cm/s), the line is perfect for fishing subsurface and shallow shore lines. Ideal when stealth is required for wary, selective fish. Made on a low memory supple monofilament core with a cold water coating and a welded loop on the front end.

With a little celestial guidance, RIO has created the OutBound Intergrated Shooting Taper. With this line, the average freshwater or saltwater caster can launch casts far, far, away to the previously unreachable. Designed to load high performance rods quickly with few false casts because the 11.4m (37.5 ft) head is heavier than the AFTMA standards.

The supple, coldwater Powerflex core and coating, combined with a taper design unique to each model, plus a thin tangle-free running line, ensure the longest flight time for unearthly casts. Available in 5 models from floating and intermediate heads with floating running lines to DC Type 3, DC Type 6 and DC Type 8 sinking heads with intermediate running lines. Rio interchangeable tip spey lines come with five different 15' tips - Floating - Clear intermediate - Sink 3 - Sink 8 with Wind Cutter and Mid Spey. Combine this with either floating or intermediate Mid Section and you have a fly line that will cover virtually every fishing situation you are likely to come across. If you wish to customise the line further, you can replace the mid section and tip with a 30' Rio shooting head - sink rate of your choice (these are available seperately).

Spey Line Windcutter Interchangable Tips

Rio Skagit Casting

Skagit casting requires a line with a very short, 25-27ft (7.6-8.3m), heavy head that propels heavy sink tips and big flies great distances with a very short casting stroke. Skagit casting is easy for novice or experienced casters to learn. When casting Skagit lines the total head length should be matched to the rod; the total head length including the sink tip should be no more than 3 - 3.5 times the length of the rod. To adjust for rod length and loading simply add a Skagit Cheater to achieve the desired load and length.

Skagit Line - Skagit lines have a revolutionary design that is perfect for Skagit casting. Available either as a body only, to which you attach one of Rio's 15ft tips, T-8, T-11 or T-14 (sold separetely), or as a VersiTip model that comes packaged with a shooting head wallet, a 5ft cheater and a 15ft DC Type 6 (6ips, 15cm/s) and a DC Type 8 (8ips, 20cm/s) sinking tip. The line is yellow with a black "loading point" for optimum casting control. For 2008 Rio has added a small, neat welded loop to the front end of all floating spey lines. This is perfect for attaching one of Rio's VersiLeaders.

Skagit Cheaters - RIO's Skagit Cheaters are a short replacement Mid Section (tip 2) for fine tuning your interchageable tip WindCutter or converting it into a Skagit head. Also used for balancing the Skagit Spey line to rod length. For a WindCutter line, simply replace the floating Tip 2 with the appropriate Cheater and attach either a 15ft sink tip for Ti4. Now a pack of 4 with one each 2.5ft, 5ft and 7.5ft floating plus 5' intermediate tips available in WindCutter sizes 6/7/8 to 10/11/12.

RIO’s new bonefish line features a unique taper design that allows a rod to load at close range, a medium-length front taper for great turnover and a long back taper to smooth out the casting loop and keep the line stable on long shots. A hard, saltwater coating over a medium stiff core results in a fly line that will not wilt in most tropical conditions, while RIO’s XS Technology keeps the line slick for fast, long casts.

The line also features an AgentX undercoat that produces a line that floats higher than competitors’ lines, is easier to pick up off the water, and unlike competing products the running line will not sink and tangle while wading. The head is incredibly easy to see in all light conditions, while the contrasting colour of the running line makes it easy to find the line’s perfect loading point. Rio Tarpon Line - Powerflex Core

The floating tarpon line features a short, forward taper and a hard, smooth tropical coating on a monofilament core. RIO's tarpon fly lines will cast haevy tarpon flies long distances with accuracy and great turnover. The floating tarpon lines, with AgentX, are higher floating and easier to pick up off the water for a second shot. Also available is a Clouser taper floating line with a 9.5ft Aqualux clear intermediate sinking tip to get the fly deeper. It is the best line to use in heavy wind to turn over the fly when other brands fail. Another useful tarpon line with the Clouser taper is the green tint Full intermediate with a 9.5ft Aqualux tip (1.5ips. 7cm/s). The Full intermediate is the favoured line in Homosassa and Australia, sinking down to put the fly in front of fish that are laid up deeper in the water column (see TFI chart). All tarpon lines feature welded loops on both ends for easy rigging.
