Summer Grayling DVD*
This programme has been prepared to introduce to the beginner the 'sport' of grayling fishing with 'fly', the setting up of the tackle and the tying of the flies used. The experienced angler should also benefit from the descriptive element of approach with the 'Bugs' and 'Dry Fly' and the importance of changing tactics to suit the conditions and reading the water. The middle and upper reaches of the 'River Dee' in North Wales is internationally known for it's population of 'Grayling' and this programme shows some locations within the area.
Small Water Fisheries DVD*
In the height of Summer, early morning and late evening is the best time on the 'Small Water Fisheries' unless you turn your attention and attempt to catch some of the 'Cyprinids'. In this programme 'Gwilym Hughes' takes you to 'Deamford Hall Trout Fishery' and then onto 'Chirk Trout Fishery' for some action on the 'Bloodworm' and a very tiny 'Shuttlecock' pattern. The 'Carp' and 'Tench' although active on the surface at 'Dearnford' proved a hard quarry to conquer but 'Rainbow Trout', 'Golden Rudd' and 'Rudd', obliged, also the aquatic richness of the water with 'Karl Humphries' the Fisheries Manager.
Whistletop Tour of Wales DVD*
Starting at 'Whitehouse Mill' small water fishery. Lampeter Velfrey in South Wales with some Rainbows on a 'Daddy' followed by a dash to the 'River Rhymney' close to Cardiff to sample the 'Grayling', through to Builth Wells and some nice 'Wild Brownies' and a 'Chub' on the River Wye, moving north to 'Claerwen Reservoir' in the Elan Valley, again, truly 'Wild Brown Trout'. The 'River Severn' at Caersws yielded 'Brown Trout' and 'Grayling' prior to some stocked Trout at 'Chirk Small Water Fishery'. Llyn Brenig was great with some very nice Rainbows on 'Dry Fly' and just an exploratory session on a small mountain Lake in North Wales with a 'Jack Pike' on fly, whetted the appetite.....forward planning has to include this predatory fish.....watch out for this one in the future!
Salmon On Fly DVD*
I think that 2004 in our time, to date, will be rated as one of the best years in terms of Salmon runs since the dreaded UDN (Ulcerative Dermal Necrosis) back in the late 60's. This is certainly the case for the 'Welsh Dee' as verbal records now show some serious catch returns for most of the beats. It is with great pride that I report 'Anglers' adopting conservation measures in the numbers of fish killed to those returned. The spawning areas in the upper reachesare more akin to bomb crater sites with Salmon reds this winter, which with a little luck will bode well for the future.
